We heard recently from Laura Walth, Librarian at the Des Moines Public Library in Iowa, who reports that their September Project program is part of a Presidential Libraries and National Issues Forums Initiative:
The Des Moines Public Library in Des Moines, Iowa is part of the Presidential Libraries-National Issues Forum initiative. This historic event, using the National Issues Forum on “Coping with the Cost of Health Care“, will be held at the Central Library September 13, 2008 from 9-Noon. See the attached poster for a list of the co-sponsors for this forum and information to preregister for this event.
After watching a video that offers three approaches to the issue, participants will split into groups to consider the pros and cons and attempt to come to an agreement. The results of this forum will be combined with other Presidential Libraries’ programs, and will be compiled into a “national report to policy makers.”
We heard of this Presidential Library program from Taylor Willingham, our friend and the founder of Texas Forums. We’re excited to see this take shape in Des Moines, and look forward to hearing more about the results!
