Who it is

Libraries

Libraries and librarians are the heart and soul of the September Project. Since 2004, over 1200 public, academic, school, government, and special libraries in 35 countries have hosted and organized September Project events. This year, we hope your library will join us.

Co-directors

sarahSarah Washburn is co-founder of the September Project. When Sarah isn’t reading, knitting, cooking, or taking walks in her neighborhood, she’s likely at her day job as the Library Programs Manager at TechSoup . She marks as a highlight traveling around rural Northern California on the Internet Archive’s bookmobile, talking to libraries about their technology needs and sharing the impressive work of the Internet Archive. She blogs at TechSoup for Libraries.

david, smaller

David Silver, co-founder of the September Project, is an associate professor of media studies at the University of San Francisco, where he teaches classes on digital media and green media. Late at night, he can be found in the front yard veggie garden looking for slugs and snails. He blogs at Silver in SF.

Research Assistants

sam

Samuel Hernandez is from Salinas, California. He has one more year left at the University of San Francisco. He likes to play soccer and also enjoys exploring the city of San Francisco and walking in Golden Gate Park. He has a passion for all types of art and he loves to read. He blogs at Mi Vida en San Francisco.

Teresa

Teresa Garcia is a communication studies major and media studies minor at the University of San Francisco. When she is not watching old movies, she can be found playing the piano, following medical dramas and wandering around used book stores. She blogs at First Impressions.

  • What is it?

Since 2004, libraries across the world have organized events about freedom and issues that matter to their communities during the month of September. This grassroots project favors free over fee, public over private, and voices over silence.
